Title: An Empty Bed
Medium: acrylic on wood
This is an acrylic painting on plywood that is a few years old and is part of a series I called Institutional.
The source was a photo I found online of an abandoned asylum in New York. I edited the composition quite a bit extending the walls upward and really accentuating the scratched surfaces. In addition, I adapted the image to my own colors and textures (I tried to incorporate the rough surface of the plywood I was using). As a rule I try not to depend on photos beyond the initial sketch, it allows me to take off into my own world.

Superb creation here! You have delineated the quiet hell of being a patient in such a place. The irony in this is that this room beckons me...it exudes a calmness; I want to sit here and simply gaze at this. That to me is great art, when a mere glance is insufficient; I want to gaze at this.
I wanted to note that your style, tone, feel...reminds me very much of Edward Hopper, who is one of my favorite painters.
